I had the honor of meeting Lloyd over 15 years ago. I was friends with his grandson, Shane, and Lloyd wanted to meet me before I headed off to Marine Corps bootcamp. While on leave and after I got out, when I would see him he would yell, "HEY MARINE!!" and always get my attention. He was pretty much deaf, so I would give him a loud "OOO-RAH!!", which always put a smile on his face.
He always referred to me as Shane's "Marine Buddy". Here this guy is a Master Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps, served in WWII and fought in the Battle of Midway and he considered me, a peon little Lance Corporal his "Marine Buddy". Classy and very Marine.
His life was long and eventful. He will be missed by all who knew him. Here's to you, Master Guns! Cheers!
